I'm not sure if you wanted a thread per suggestion but that would fill up this forum with new threads from me, so I'll put them all here.

Things I would like:

1) World peace

No, wait, that's the wrong list....

2) Wall thickness

Yes I know we go on about it but it remains a problem with some clients. I mostly do floorplans for upmarket agents and their smart (expensive) custom floorplans all have at least a realistic wall thickness, if not an accurate one. Mobile Agent floorplans look 'cheap' by comparison. One agent who would like to switch to me using Mobile Agent picked thin walls as his first reason for not switching.

I don't want variable wall thickness, which I understand would be an absolute nightmare, but just a toggle between normal and thick - this presumably would have to be set before starting the floorplan, which I would be quite willing to accept. The same internal/external thickness ratio would be fine - all I want is a choice between 300mm and 500mm external walls.

3) Angled stairs

Thanks - the new no-handrail and no-bottom-step options are absolutely wonderful - now I can do those 'two steps up' between rooms.

This is a long shot request but I've twice recently had to try to do stairs that turned 45 degrees, not 90 degrees on a corner - endless separate bits of worktop and short lengths of stairs were needed.

But I accept this is a low volume request.

4) Non-automatic chimneys

I find it a perpetual nuisance to have an external chimney appear when I'm trying to add just a fireplace, if my mouse pointer strays over the wall. Either make the chimney option a different type of fireplace, or make it possible to 'dispapear' the chimney.

It would be nice to have a blank chimney breast (exactly as it is now) and a chimney breast with fireplace (but without external chimney).

5) Non-automatic quadruple doors

Does anyone actually use this feature, where double doors over 2.00m wide turn into quadruple doors? It seems almost useless because there is only one width (2.52m - why?) where the doors don't overlap or leave a gap. Just make the double doors remain for any size doorway, so they can be used for old fashioned garage doors for instance, and let the users add two sets for quadruple doors.

6) Door size option

This goes with the wall thickness issue. It would be lovely to have a wider default door option, say 900mm, so that I don't have to make every door bigger each time, when doing houses that have magnificent doors. OK, it's perfectly do-able at present, it's just tedious.

7) Door option on cupboards

Does the storage/airing/boiler/wardrobe choice just control the text that some users make use of? I would like a door option instead, so that I could choose between single-hinged-door, double-hinged-door and sliding-door cupboards - deleting the default door and replacing it with the right door is much more time-consuming than changing the text would be (plus I don't use the text, hee, hee...)

8) Improve the showers

Both the normal and corner showers are pretty ugly things and bigger showers look just like odd baths. How about tightening them up as shown in the bottom of the diagram? I assume TMA is all parametric, so I've added parameter values.

The corner bath is just as bad (all the others are fine) - looks like an eight-year-old drew it.

9) Default worktop width

I have never drawn a floorplan of a house with 500mm deep worktops and I doubt they still exist - but that is the default size for the worktops and the sink/cooker appliances. I guess there may have been an idea that shallow worktops will make kitchens look more spacious that they are, but instead it just looks like the floorplan is trying to con the viewer. 600mm is the depth of 99.something % of worktops, so let's have that.

10) Drainerless sink

I can put in a drainer-less sink with double bowls, the very strange double-and-two-halves bowls and, nearly, for a bowl-and-a-half sink - but not for a single bowl, which always has a drainer. I can see it's the parameters at work again but a drainerless single bowl (such as a Belfast sink) is pretty common.

I presume the double-and-two-halves bowls should actually have been a full-bowl/half-bowl/full-bowl which has the merit of exisiting in reality....

11) Aga

This goes with the upmarket houses, like the wide doors and thick walls. Can we please have an Aga to add in the kitchen? This was number two on the posh agents reasons for turning down the Mobile Agent floorplans.

I've used the 'add a space' object for this up to now but it is a poor subsititute. If I was uncharitable (which of course I'm not), I'd point out there are lots more Agas than there are double-and-two-halves bowl sinks....

There are two distinctive 'essence of Aga-ness' features, in addition to the obvious two hotplate covers, which are the handles and the towel rail, so here is my Aga object:

That's it for now - if you could have those ready for Monday's jobs, I'd much appreciate it.....

Hi Andrew, really sorry for the delay in reply, we moved servers over the last weekend so our email notifications have been a bit unreliable! Also the reply took a bit of time!

Ill try and answer in order...

1. I'll add that to the future feature list. May take some time though...

2. Wall thickness is probably top of the list of features that we have time and time again looked at and decided against. I appreciate what you are saying, smart expensive drawings would be done most likely in CAD packages or something similar. These let you do everything you want in a floorplan, but take so much more time. To make TMA really quick and easy for majority of floorplans we have to leave stuff out. Wall thickness is one - quite simply because of the interface required.

However... your idea on the set wall across the whole property is an interesting one, and one we would certainly consider going forward. We have always ruled that out in the past, as we felt the minute we did that everyone would say it was useless and need it per wall etc. But, if genuinely, people would find this a pretty good compromise then we will defiantly look into it. I will add a separate wall thickness vote, so if people want this please vote!

3. Angled stairs are already in TMA. Please see the videos page --> Adding Items --> Angled Stairs (note only workings in IE or Firefox) http://www.themobileagent.co.uk/tma/videos/help/default.asp

4. Got to say you are the first person that has not been happy with this option - most of our users say its really quick to be able to add a fireplace with or without the chimney breast - just make sure your mouse or stylus stays inside the room to leave the chimney breast off! We will look at adding an option to hide or show however.

5. We will look at the doors in our next version - we are aware that they can be more user friendly.

6. When we have options to re-size the doors we feel it would be counter productive to have the same symbol, just bigger. We will have a chat about this option here, but I'm not convinced we can do anything about that one - again we have to go with the majority of users - even in large houses generally the doors sizes are still standard?

7. Correct, that's what the cupboard naming is for. However, we used to have the option for choosing different doors on cupboards, and removed it for technical reasons. We are now looking at adding that option back in.

8. We are looking at improving all symbols in future versions, including the showers. We will take on board your comments and look to make them more realistic.

9. Your absolutely correct in what you are saying, and yes we did them at 500mm because they are intended to represent what is there, and for most floorplans drawn in TMA 600mm worktops make the kitchen look tighter and more busy, and in tests found people made the worktops slightly smaller to make it look less busy, which annoyed the user because they had to amend worktops every time... we can't win!

I fully appreciate your point and we will have a chat about it. However, in the last 10 years of selling TMA and with now over 16,000 plans drawn with us each month, I think you are the 2nd person to mention this! I'm not saying its not valid, all I'm saying is on a plan a standard floor plan size, its there to represent a worktop with a cooker. People won't be (or shouldn't be!) using it to measure up their kitchen.

For the moment, unless more people come forward and completely disagree with me, they will stay as they are, and we will look to increase the size in a future version.

10. We have some new kitchen symbols already finished, so are due to go in the next version. This should include drainer-less sink.

11. Aga will be included with the new kitchen symbols in the next version. Again there is one symbol for an aga - the detail on the towel rail, on a floorplan is very small. Again the symbols are a guide to what's there - we cannot add every single type of symbol out there - you will spend 5 minutes per item finding the exact one, when one symbol that is 95% close enough for all cases is good enough.

People use these plans for layout guides. They won't look at a floorplan and decide not to go and look at a house because the aga doesn't show a towel rail. (Likewise with the sink with drainer etc).

We are working on the new version at the moment. We hope to have some really good new features coming soon.

Recently we have added the new view images option which should make putting floorplans on websites much more straight forward, and also in the last week a new PDF option.

Kind regards,
